Kopi (Cupiuba/ Kabukalli)

WOOD Characteristics

The wood is yellow brown, sometimes with presence of internal stresses. It has an unpleasant odor. It has clearly demarcated sapwood. The grain is interlocked and the texture is medium.

Gluing is correct for interior only. Cupiuba dries slowly and the drying must be done slowly as well. Cupiuba is moderately durable to fungi and is durable to dry wood borers; sapwood demarcated (risk limited to sapwood). Resistance to brown cubical rot: good to very good. Resistance to white rot: moderate.

Usage of Kopi

Cupiuba can be used for several applications such as:

  • Interior: e.g. furniture, stairs, flooring, industrial or heavy flooring, sliced veneer 
  • Exterior: e.g. wood frame house, heavy carpentry, panelling, joinery 

The unpleasant odour may limit the use of this timber. For furniture end-uses, filling and varnishing are necessary.
